What the devil?

In 2018 I attended a course on exorcism at the Vatican. Here’s what I learned.

Dear friend,

I have a confession to make: Today’s edition of Nation First is very different to the material I usually publish.

Back in 2018, I went on a pilgrimage for Easter which took me to Jerusalem, Rome and Bosnia.

As a student of theology and with a significant interest in the spiritual battle that’s playing out all around us, I attended a course on exorcism at the Vatican. This is the course made famous in the movie (and book) titled The Rite.

(Bizarrely, about a week later, I encountered a man who was seemingly possessed. More on that later.)

It was at this Vatican course that I was told that not only could an individual be possessed but so too could a society, a culture, a nation, in fact an entire civilisation.

When in Rome: I was caught drinking coffee in this photo accomapanyong a New York Times story on the exorcism course (in the red circle).

For the sake of accuracy, the “Vatican course” I took was actually called the Course on Exorcism and Prayers of Liberation and was organised by the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum’s Instituto Sacerdos.

Rather than just being open only to Roman Catholics, the course was available to anyone officially sponsored by a bishop of any denomination, but they to be approved by the Instituto Sacerdos.

An Anglican bishop in a diocese I was affiliated with at the time, sponsored my application which was successful.

The event ran for six days and featured more talks than I can recall.

There was significant discussion on the rise of the occult and practitioners thereof, on sects and criminal syndicates linked to Satanism and many, many lectures relating to the stringent rules that the Catholic Church has in place in relation to exorcisms.

Some of it was fascinating but some of it was so dry and boring that I developed the Italian addiction to caffeine just to get through a session.

The most interesting talk was given by Roman Catholic Cardinal Ernest Simoni of Albania (if I recall correctly) who, aside from telling us he sometimes conducted exorcisms by mobile phone, reflected on whether or not communities, nations, cultures and civilisations could be possessed.

What was said was along the lines of this:

If bad ideas — really bad, I mean Satanic ideas — gain widespread acceptance in a particular country, then a nation can be said to be possessed, as can it’s culture.

Indeed, Cardinal Simoni is recorded by the Catholic media as cautioning that cultural mentalities such as materialism and consumerism “destroy life.”

Roman Catholic Cardinal Ernesto Simoni of Albania.

The destruction of life is certainly a Satanic idea.

In fact, with the destruction of life that we call abortion it’s literally a Satanic ritual, and it has destroyed almost 23 million lives in 2022 already and we’re only half way through the year.

But innocent lives don’t have be ended to be destroyed.

Interestingly, the exorcism course featured talks on how child pornography is used in Satanic rituals as well as incidences of modern-day ritual child sacrifice in Africa.

The fact is such evil crimes against children are on the rise, with official figures suggesting one in five trafficked persons are children.

At a more base level, we have educational institutions and our governments promoting all sorts of warped messages to our children.

We have an experimental gene therapy masquerading as a vaccine being pushed upon everyone, often under duress, with many known and suspected adverse side effects including death and infertility.

We also know that the globalists elites dream of a future where the human population is culled and that the ones who remain are fused with artificial intelligence.

Former Papal Nuncio to the USA, Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano has said that this transhumanist push “is a hellish project, in which the Devil mocks the creation of God by perverting and corrupting it.”

Vigano says the so-called “pandemic” triggered a Satanic frenzy.

It also triggered a mass formation event, where people were dehumanised by government, media and others for simply wanting to protect their bodily autonomy.

How much hatred of humanity and God does there need to be for society to be possessed? And what happens when it is possessed?

If you’re a Christian who doubts the veracity of possession and exorcism, then I need to remind you that the Bible records Jesus casting demons out of a possessed man.

An illustrative scene of Jesus casting demons into a herd of swine from the Gospel of Matthew.

If you’re not a Christian, then all I can do is recall the facts and my own experiences and let you be the judge.

In 2018, reported cases of alleged demonic possession were on the rise in such diverse places as Italy, Ireland, Africa, and the USA .

In Sicily alone, there was said to be a tripling of cases, reaching half a million alleged possessions.

The situation became that bad in Mexico that, in 2015, the Catholic Church authorised an exorcism of the entire nation.

Spanish priest and exorcist, Father Jose Fortea told Catholic media that when “sin increases more and more in a country… it becomes easier for the demons to tempt” and that “to the extent there is more witchcraft and Satanism going on in a country, to that extent there will be more extraordinary manifestations of those powers of darkness.”

In Australia, the situation is no different.

The late Brisbane-based Jesuit priest and exorcist, Father Gregory Jordan used to joke about the Gold Coast having that many cases of possession that he called it “Sodom and Gomorrah”.

Protestant pastor and exorcist John Gill concurs that the Gold Coast is a busy place for the devil.

When I was serving as a Member of Parliament, I had a Catholic priest visit my office in Canberra where he conduct a blessing of my Parliament House office, praying over every nook and cranny and sprinkling holy water all over the place.

He told it was important to do that because it was known that Satanists conducted ceremonies atop of the nearby Mount Ainslie which were directed at Parliament House.

Canberra’s Mt Ainslie lookout with a direct line of sight to Parliament House.

Now here’s where the sceptics are just going to have to believe me. I have had this weird sense of feeling when I’m the presence of real evil since I was a child.

While I can’t describe it, when evil is there I’m acutely aware of it so much so that the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

It would be a much better story if I was to tell you otherwise, but the truth is I never had that feeling while I was in Parliament House or Canberra.

I did get the feeling when I was on that pilgrimage back in 2018.

When I was in Bosnia, I visited the town of Medjugorje where it is said that the Virgin Mary has been appearing to certain ‘visionaries’ since 1981.

It was at the Church of St James in that town where it happened.

A photograph I took of the Church of St James, Medjugorje during my pilgrimage.

Standing at the back of the packed-out church during a worship service, I heard a weird and out of place grunt come from someone literally standing a metre or two behind me.

And so I began to pray. Within a minute, all hell broke loose.

The grunts turned into painful moans which then became shrieks of terror and finally guttural, non-human roars as the person making them dropped to the floor and began to writhe about like a snake.

I never heard a person make such animalistic noises before nor seen someone move in such a serpentine-like way.

Three priests ran to the back of the church, restrained the man and rushed him away; to where I know not.

What I do know is that we are engaged in more than just a political or cultural battle.

There is a spiritual war going on and we are in it whether we like it or not.

That’s why I end every one of these Nation First emails with this sign-off:

God bless you, your family and our nation. And I mean it.

Take care,

George Christensen
