Walking in the Woods
An atheist was walking through the woods. “What majestic trees!” “What powerful rivers! What beautiful animals!” he said to himself.
Suddenly he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. He turned to look and there was a 7-foot grizzly bear charging towards him.
He ran as fast as he could along the path. He looked back and saw that the bear was closing on him. Running at a frenzied speed he looked back to see the bear even closer. On looking back again he fell over a log in his way. The bear was now right over the top of him and raising his left paw to strike.
In that instant the atheist cried out “Oh my God!”
Time stopped… the bear froze…the forest was silent … and a bright light shone in the sky above the man, and a voice said …
“You deny my existence for all these years, you teach others that I don’t exist, and you even hold that my creation is a cosmic accident….Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament?”
“Am I to count you as a believer?”
The atheist looked up at the light and said … “It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now … but the bear… perhaps you could make the bear a Christian?”
After a pause ….
The voice said “Very well.” The light went out, the sounds of the forest resumed, the bear withdrew his left paw an brought it together with his right one and bowed his head. Then the bear spoke “Lord, bless this food, which I am about to receive. Amen.
